JANG's LEGO Reviews
Ecosystem
7658 (previous System scale Y-Wing) β Much improved, particularly in cockpit shape (flatter and more accurate) and greebling quality. However, not vastly different overall. Only worth upgrading if you don't own the previous version or are a completionist.
UCS Y-Wing β This System scale version appears scaled down from the UCS model. Uses improved greebling and design elements inspired by the UCS edition, particularly brown piping.
9493 X-Wing 85 β Reviewer notes this Y-Wing is similarly a best rendition yet and worth the buy if you don't already own one
X-wing (contemporary system set) β The X-wing is better value for money at the same Β£49.99 price point, offering 102 more parts and an extra minifigure. However, the reviewer prefers the Y-wing's aesthetic design, describing it as looking like it was built in a rebel garden shed with awkward angles and exposed sections, whereas the X-wing appears too refined. Logically the X-wing is the better purchase, but personal aesthetic preference favours the Y-wing.
