Scam or legit? Combating scam sales thread

Inspired by discussion on a few other threads, I am pulling the conversation to a new thread to detail the experiences of fraudulent sellers encountered by this community. (Please direct this elsewhere if a running reference document already exists.) Hopefully this thread can add data to the discussion and drive action to reduce losses. --------- My story to date. Saw a post in Daily Deals about the Parisian Restaurant for $100 through an Amazon seller. RRP is $150. My thinking: Odd, but 1) it might be someone who caught a deal I missed or has overextended themselves and needs to move inventory fast to generate cash. 2) If it is some sort of scam, Amazon A to Z guarantee should have me covered. Additionally: - I have only been watching Lego for 6 months. There may have been something I missed about a sale on this set that I haven't seen that allowed someone to purchase it at a discount - The price was low, but not stupid low. 33% strikes me as a high discount for the Modulars, as the best I've seen is 2x VIP at RRP, but maybe there is something about this one I don't know. - I've lost out on good deals to indecision several times already in those 6 months - I am not concerned about having $100 tied up. - Evaluation: upside +$50. downside: wasted time Bias towards action and CLICK! Ordered. Then the forum starts to turn... several people chime in that it is obviously fraudulent. Crap. So... leaning in to a possible mistake, I start to share with the group. Several well meaning members suggest that this is a scam, and that the way to combat this type of scam is to not give them attention or business. I offered my insight that our boycott won't prevent others from falling for a scam. What is the scam? Several thoughts have been offered. I don't know the accuracy of these, but they may be accurate. 1) Fake sales get submitted to Amazon, but some percentage of people simply forget about it, netting scammers some uncontested cash for their effort 2) There is some value in the purchase info... name, address, etc. So far, I've opted to let it ride and see what happens. By detailing the decisions I've made and the sets in the process, others may benefit. This morning, I received a shipping notification with tracking number. To be continued...
