Should you call TRU, target, Etc for deals or drive there yourself?

Sorry if this topic has been discussed. Would like to hear people's opinions...is it better to call stores like Lego, Walmart, target, TRU etc first to find out if they have a specific product in stock like for example tumbler or do you prefer to just take a few hours one day driving to 5-10 stores and having a look for yourself. I personally feel more excited about going on an a little adventure to see if I find something. If I don't of well.
