Using the Kiosk at a USPS office

Just had an interesting experience at the post office. After several years' hiatus from selling Lego on Ebay, I finally sold my first kit in a long time: Parisian Restaurant. I charged $24 shipping in my Ebay listing, which seemed fine to me. At the post office, using the Kiosk, I noticed I only got express mail and priority mail shipping options that were super expensive. So I got in line and went to a clerk. I was able to send it "ground" or whatever the cheapest option is, but it cost $42 (!) which I think is the most I've ever spent to ship a big Lego box using the USPS. The postal worker mentioned the box was big enough to incur a "penalty" charge for being too big, etc., but it seemed like a lot of money to shop from south Florida to Virginia. The postal worker told me that the kiosks DO NOT offer anything cheaper than priority mail. I was like "they certainly used to" and she was like "The kiosks are new". I think they're now a few years old, but they are relatively "new" and maybe this is the first Lego box I've tried to mail using the "new" kiosk. Does this all make sense to everyone out there in America using the USPS and the Kiosks?
