Pick-a-Brick wall...a fading memory?

I couple years ago, I would go to the brick and mortar Lego stores and would love to see new pieces available on the Pick-A-Brick wall. For a while, they would make available several new and unique pieces every quarter or so. Even if there were "legacy" pieces that would almost never get swapped out, there would at least be a good handful of refresh pieces. Now, not so much. I feel like I went to the stores at least a few times within the past year and a half and no significantly newer pieces were added. And this is across the multiple stores in my immediate location. They don't even really offer new Pick-A-Brick wall models anymore (which was a horrible deal anyway but not the point). Is the wall no longer a source of cheap pieces but rather a decorative store element? I'd rather not part out too many new sets for pieces and although I can buy from the Parts and Pieces page or Brickowl, I do still like to browse the wall and fill my cup to capacity. Is this the end?
