Investing in Retiring Minifigures

I think most discussions in this forum are for LEGO sets when it comes to investing. I want to know if anyone has ever invested in minifigures from the sets that are still available/about to retire in stores. For example, set 76281 X Men X Jet has exclusive Cyclops minifigure that is currently valued about $16. I'm tempting to buy several from ebay/bricklink.
