LEGO baseplates as investment?

As we all know LEGO does not like baseplates anymore for several reasons. Does it mean that they could be a good investment for the future? As I know many of landscape builders use baseplates as subsurface for all their buildings. And even LEGO recently provides normal baseplates 16x16 as subsurface for the newer Creator buildings it does not make a big sense in my eyes because LEGO roads are still made on baseplates and this leads to the fact that people still need to buy baseplates to have the same subsurface for all their LEGO stuff (The different height of baseplates and normal plates does not allow to pin them to each other in an easy way). LEGO itself does provide baseplates in sets currently only for Modulars (I assume because of compatibility reasons). They are selling them separately but only in few colors and even different sizes: Light bluish gray (48x48) Tan (32x32) Bright green (32x32) --> What the hell has influenced them not to provide the normal green color, which is the more natural one (for weed etc..) Blue (32x32) --> Not released yet But what is with white, red, yellow, trans-clear etc. colors or with smaller/bigger sizes for the already available colors? Nothing and there will be nothing... As the baseplates currently available on the market come from older sets, they will surely increase in price, because there is no supply anymore. Or do you expect another development here? It would be good to know from people building landscapes if they want to transform to the normal plates instead of baseplates?
