To Register or not to Register - Newbie Question

Sorry if this is covered elsewhere, but couldn't find it. At what point do people generally think that the set they're selling is valuable enough that it needs to be sent by registered post, rather than standard or economy? I put something up on ebay for €42 and had the postal costs in based on it being registered, the price is reasonable, but I think the postal cost will kill be. Should I only be looking at registered post where the value is higher and take the risk on lower items where I'm not going to take a massive hit if there is a problem?
