lego shop at home retiring price drop

I wonder how other members think. In recent one month, there are quite a few sets retiring. I noticed some (especially larger) sets had significant price drop. But, I seem not to be able to buy those sets with such a significant price drop because they were all sold out. One example, fire brigade has been shown sold out long ago; now, if you check it, its price dropped down 119 USD from 149. Wonder what the point is for the price drop if this set has been sold out long ago? Do I miss something? Is that mind game played by Lego? on the other hand, I also saw some sets with price drops (sometimes, drop twice from 25% to 50%) but still available for purchase. Maybe some members would know the reason or more experience about this phenomenon...
