Help out a new guy

Hey guys I'm just getting back into legos, and I'm excited to find this place because I think it sounds like a good idea to partially fund an expensive hobby by utilizing the knowledge of this community. I want to buy a few sets to start my investing, but I need a little advice, and I have a few questions. I want to guide my investing by buying sets that I actually like. This way I can buy one for myself and try to buy a few more to fund the purchase later down the line. I like a lot of sets, so I woulld onl be excluding a few. Is it worthwhile to buy smaller sets like "LEGO Monster Fighters #9461 The Swamp Creature"?.. or should I go with larger sets like "LEGO Monster Fighters The Crazy Scientist & His Monster #9466"? How are the architecture sets? They're more expensive, but I'd imagine there's a big collector market for them. I ordered a tower bridge online just for me and my brother to work on.. but what are your thoughts on buying another one or two? Will the sets bring any returns? Will the sets be discontinued anytime soon so I can start selling? I'm also looking at falling water, Lego Hulk Hellicarrier, LEGO Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles The Shellraiser Street Chase, and a few more. I'm also inerested in knowing if there are certain themes that make better investments, like Chima, Niinjago, Galaxy Squad etc.? Thanks in advance for anything you guys can share.
