Have you ever bought any sets that were perceived as something that will do well in secondary market, but ended up becoming a loser?

See title. Am curious if anyone bought sets thinking it's something that will do well after retirement, but ends up being a loser. I do realize that those sets could still increase in value later and end up being a winner, but are there sets that are years after retirement and still is selling for below MSRP on eBay and other secondary markets?
